Paradise Racing returned to the South Garda karting Circuit in Lonato, Italy to compete in the 2012 ROK Cup International Final. The following is a J3 Competition Event Preview Report
Only days away from embarking on the 2011 RoK Cup International Final, the J3 Competition Race Department is set to make good on its efforts. Having competed in several European events, including last year’s RoK Cup with Patricio O’Ward, J3 Competition will manage and run two drivers in 2011. The young spotlight drivers are Patricio O’Ward and Michael d’Orlando who will both be competing in the Mini RoK category aboard J3 Competition prepared Kosmic Karts. Also on a Kosmic will be Davey Manthei Jr. of Kartel Motorsports along side tuner Erik Bartolero.
The event will once again be set at in Lonato, Italy at the famed South Garda Karting circuit. Starting with free practice on Tuesday, the team will work through these sessions until Friday when official qualification takes place. After qualifying the event will hold three heat races on Saturday with the finals to follow on Sunday.
Returning after a near victory in 2011, O’Ward will be looking to improve upon his record breaking fourth place finish this time around. With solid knowledge of the Mini Rok engine package and the different tires required for the RoK Cup, O’Ward will definitely start off on Tuesday on the right side of the curve. With strong expectations look for O’Ward to make another mark for himself and the J3 Competition Race Department at the 2011 event.
Michael d’OrlandoMichael d’Orlando Michael, d’Orlando will be looking to continue his steady improvement since joining the J3 Competition team with his first trip to Europe. Unipro data acquisition systems will aid O’Ward and d ‘Orlando in comparison and with solid expectations of improving and learning a wealth of driving knowledge, d’Orlando will take this experience forward when he travels to Las Vegas in November to compete in the TaG Cadet field at the SuperNationals.
“The RoK Cup is one of the most competitive events in the world, and probably the most competitive for the 8-11 year old category. Last year we were close to victory with young O’Ward and this year we will have new material coupled with O’Ward returning and the addition of d’Orlando, so outlook is very positive from the onset, stated Team Manager, Justin Stefani .”

Pan American Finals at New Castle Motorsports Park |
The usual suspects arrived in New Castle for the Mini Max category and J3’s Patricio O’Ward was on his game. Battling mixed conditions where O’Ward continually set the pace in the wet, which gave the young Mexican a fourth place starting position for the pre-final. With a last minute change in Parc Ferme for the pre final, O’Ward took to the grid without his ideal chassis setup due the time constraint. However, O’Ward salvaged a solid result putting him in contention for the final. With definite rain, O’Ward’s team made all the necessary changes for the final and at the drop of the flag O’Ward was unfortunately forced off in turn one with no hope to battle for the win, thus resulting in a DNF.
